HL Albion Robynsson, Bard of Artemsia, sends greetings to one and all, and to
the Baronies and Shires of Artemisia!
I would like to issue a Challenge to all you mad musicians and vocalists out
there, to learn Henry VIII's "Pastyme With Good Companye" by Uprising. I will
be teaching a class on Renaissance Vocals there at 4pm on Friday afternoon
(credits will be given), and we will work on Pastyme as well as a few rounds
during the class. I am hoping a group of us will be able to present Pastyme
and perhaps even a round or two sometime Saturday - either by visiting some
notable encampments during the day or evening, visiting 1 or more of our own
respective encampments, or even accompanying Their Majesties for a brief while
on Royal Rounds in the early evening.
I am sending a copy of the music and lyrics to each Barony and Shire, and
would ask that the Ministers of Arts & Science pass copies to any singer
and/or musicians in your area. Singers - the melody (the top staff) is very
easy to learn if you don't already know it, and the tenor part (the middle
staff) is very important, as the tenor part can well determine the size of the
group. The bottom staff is a fairly simple bass line. Guitarists - feel free
to bring yours! Capo III and use the chords on the lyric sheet. We'll also
need a drummer or two for a very basic beat. Pastyme is one of my favorites,
simple to learn, and was the party tune of the times - so everyone come and
join in! I hope to see many of you there on Friday!
May the Flame of Chivalry Continue to Burn Bright in Your Hearts!
