It would appear that I am in charge of our little gardening get together.
I apologize to all for not checking my emails more frequently, I would
have noticed and sent this out sooner. Mea Culpa.
Well, with that out of the way ----
The Uprising Gardeners Gathering (aka "Seed and Start Exchange",
"Gardening Meet and Greet", "Gardening Gossip Gather", and many other names I am
sure) is scheduled for Thursday the 18th starting at 11 AM and ending at 1 PM.
This gathering will immediately follow a class I am teaching on Medieval
gardening methods so those who are interested might want to schedule that
into their timing.
Since the gathering is scheduled over a traditional mealtime, I thought I
would bring a couple of my favorite garden type recipes and some of my
early production just so everyone can enjoy the taste of fresh grown produce
and share some things beyond just the seeds and starts. I would invite
others to do the same. If you do bring a dish to share, please bring a copy of
the recipe and I will compile these and send them out to any who attend
the Gardening Gathering. I just love sharing these types of things.
Besides recipes, please bring any seeds or starts you happen to have handy
and we will have an area where we can all display and trade what we bring.
I know that it is late in the game but if any of you have a moment and
want to share what you will be bringing (so we can all drool and plan)
please take a moment to list them here.
I plan to bring several well rooted starts of the heritage (read original
not hybrid) Damascene Rose. I also have several rooted starts for English
Thyme and Lemon Thyme. Also in the herbal area, I will be bringing the
following,
Lavender, Comfrey Root, Rue, S John's Wort, Tansy (aka "Cramp Weed"),
tarragon, sage, marjoram, dill, lemon balm, chives, horehound, caraway, &
yarrow.
Berries - several starts for Boysenberries, Blackberries and gooseberries
(these are great if you or someone you know suffers from kidney stones as
a fresh gooseberry leaf tea will dissolve kidney stones).
Flowers, several splits of daylilies and a few miniature rosebushes.
Veggies - don't have much to share this year but do have some lovely
flowering kale that needs splitting and relocation to a new home and one bosc
pear start that grew too large too low and had to leave it's mother tree, it
has rootlets and is looking for a new home.
OK, enough listing, those are just a few things that will be available.
Looking forward to both hearing and seeing what others will bring. I am
esp. interested in useful climbing plants to grow on pergolas and arches.
Last but certainly not least, bring your ideas and knowledge. I think
that is the best part of the gathering, the little tidbits of knowledge that
keep us knowing and growing.
Looking forward to meeting with all of you on Thursday at 11 AM.
