I work out at the airport and I concur, take the cab and pre-pay. There is a kiosk curbside at the cab starter booth. Pre-pay saves heartache later and ensures a direct trip.

I think if you have that tight of a time deadline a cab might be a better 
option.  It is approximately a 20 minute trip by car from the airport to the 
University at that time of the day anyway and I am not sure how long it 
would be by public transit.  The other bonus is that the cab will drop you 
off directly at the guest house rather than having to walk from TRAX (and I 
am not sure how long that would take either.)
