Greetings All,
Lord Arthen gave a very good summary of the event. Participation overall was quite good, especially considering the dire forecast in the weather. As it turned out, it was clear and sunny all day, a slight breeze, and at least it felt warmer than expected!
Lady Sheelaugh, the Kingdom Equestrian Champion, put together a very challenging course the required skill in ring lance, javelin throwing, sword work, and general riding ability. Riding skills required negotiating across a waterway onto a bridge, manuevering through deadfall (as in the forest), and manuevering through a maze of bad guys, with a few good guys thrown in for good measure.
The horses all showed good spirit, sometimes a little too much spirit, and got into their role.
After a hard fought (hard rode?) course, Duke Reinmar emerged as the new Kingdom Equestrian Champion. Vivat to His Grace!
Following the competition, several people got a chance to ride and enjoy the horses. Happily, everyone stayed in the saddle as long as they wished, with no "unscheduled" dismounts.
We look forward to next year's Championship, and until then, encourage anyone interested to come and ride, even if that means you're just starting out.
Thanks go to Lady Danielle for coordinating much of the event, to Lady Sheelaugh for setting up a fun and difficult course, with MANY props. Finally, my hearty and heartfelt thanks go to the good people of the Barony of 1000 Eyes who made the "nuts and bolt's" part of the event a reality!
YIS, Alan
