[Artemisia] Fwd: [Announcements] Membership Fees

And then again I agree with Gefjon.  Just one of my membership (horse related)
is $120 a year.  I recieve a fat glossy magazine every month with my membership.
This being the National Reined Horse Association.  My membership entitles me to
vote, non-members can't vote and it's one membership, one vote not a individual
each member in the house can vote.  I also earn money and points as rider and
the horse. The same with the Reined Cow Horse Assoc, American Quarter Horse and
several others I fork out the big bucks for.  If the SCA wants to be a
'professional' acting group, either up the benefits for the Substaining Members
(who are really the supports of the game) or lower the benefits for Associate
members like other groups.  Substaining is like The Gold Membership, you get
more and Associate is like the Bronze Membership.. you get less.

I see the SCA as very different from a professional organization.  I pay
dues to the Canadian Livestock Registry in order to register my sheep, and
also belong to the breed organization.  But I see those as a necessary cost
of doing business, for which I get compensated.  (my animals are worth more
if they are registered, and the breed org. offers useful info and buyer
contacts)

In all reality the SCA is an enjoyable game, that most of us have put a lot
of $$ into over the years, in return for the enjoyment and fellowship that
we get in return.  However in hard times, these are often the first things
that must be cut.  So I can see the possibility of higher membership dues
causing a cut in the number of members, and thus leaving fewer people to
shoulder the financial load...  Just sayn'  ;-)
