When my high-school physics class passed around sample lenses, I tried 
looking thru the concavo-concave. I *am* legally blind without lenses, 
probably was then, and that random-strength lens was way better than 
nothing.

The new order wouldn't need dedicated lenscrafters, just materials and 
someone who could approximate an old lens, from a sample or 
trial-&-error. And wearers who would tolerate headaches and/or doing w/o 
lenses for portions of each day.
