[Artemisia] Strong Tents

Hi Angus!

Both Sir Bart, Don Azir and I have all bought 14' round pavilions from
Revival. The pavilion was about $900 then (I think it's just a little
more now) and has a center pole, and metal spoke package (you can get
wood poles now, but when we bought it they didn't have it available,
frankly the metal works for me.) It's not a high end pavilion obviously,
but has stood up for the past 8 years in high winds, rain, snow etc. It
looks good when set up, and has lots of room for our bed and junk. And
really we only encamp a couple times a year, so it works for us. Here's
the website: http://revival.us/medievalroundpavilion.aspx

I frankly think most pavilions regardless of style, are stable when
properly roped, staked and set up correctly. There is a science to
getting a pavilion set up to withstand weather. Take some time and learn
what your future tent needs. I know for our pavilion once it's set up,
a couple hours later the canvas relaxes and we need to go around and
re-stake and tighten ropes. It is what it is. We did buy a second set of
iron stakes from Panther primitives, for those times we end up camping
in the rocks, the wood stakes they provide are awesome, but sometimes
you need more.

There will be at least two examples in League of York if you want to
stop by and check one out in person. :)

HE Juliana

We don't know what kind to purchase. That was why we were asking.
Someone said
that the double pole is a lot more stable. That may be the route to go.
But if
there is a used center pole tent for not a lot, we may go with that. We
only
have about a $1000 to spend.

Angus

Unfortunately your question must be answered with questions in return-
What size

and what shape/design (Marquis yes, but square or rectangle Marquis) are
we
discussing? I have 20 years experience with period tents, I'm happy to
share my

knowledge, but I need a more detailed starting point.
