To all of my fellow veterans, thank you for serving!
 
To all of those still serving, either active or Reserve/Guard, thanks for stepping up where we old guys left it!
 
To all of those military parents, spouses, and children, thanks for sharing your soldier/sailor with the rest of us, we all know that "those left behind also serve."
 
To all of those people, especially the young ones, who did not/have not yet served, consider the point made by the great author Robert Heinlein-  "A Veteran is someone who made the choice to take responsibility for the welfare of the Nation, making it more important than their own personal safety!" [Starship Troopers]
 
And while you're thanking vets for their sacrifices, remember to thank the cops, firefighters, and EMTs, since they also choosed to put the safety of the community ahead of their own.  After all, what do you call the people running *into* a burning building to make sure everyone else is running out?  A Hero.
