[Artemisia] Question for Kurtis/William (was Yay for Good TV! :D)

Hi Kurtis/William and all,

Thanks for your response. I'm going to watch the evolution of the sport
of jousting with great interest. I would also love it if somewhere down
the road, the issue of training cavalry were addressed; but I'm kind of
a geek when it comes to that sort of thing :-)

I'll bet that several people on this list watched the early days of MMA
and the UFC. Does anyone out there remember when you would see pairings
like Sumo wrestler vs. barroom brawler? Those early days had their
charm.....but the UFC grew up. The days of portraying fighters as
out-of-control, rabid, caged animals are over, thank god. The UFC had a
long, hard, road convincing state legislatures that MMA fighters were
athletes; but eventually, they prevailed. You don't have to love the
UFC, but you do have to acknowledge that it, and MMA fighting, has evolved.

In a similar light, the way the SCA learned....pretty much
everything.....about armored combat was to get in there and do it. I
don't know if anyone has written a history about the development of this
fighting form; but I think it would be an AWESOME read if they did. I
can imagine that every step of the way, issues like switching from hard
wood sticks to rattan, the development of helms as we use them today,
shield construction, and dozens of other implementation details had
their roots in the school of hard knocks. There are probably even a
bunch of fighters here in this kingdom who were part of that evolution.
This is our history, and I'll bet you money that there's a great story
in there.

Anyway, best of luck to you and happy trails :-)

I realize not everyone will like the show and thats fine. but I believe as far as main stream america. charlie is bringing a style of jousting to them that they will love.

I am putting everything I have into this show to make it work and I think its rather rude when people I consider my friends to get on here and bad mouth the work I do. I dont get on here saying how much I dont like your boss, or the clothes you wear to work look terrible. so why would you do the same thing to me. honestly if you dont like it then at least have the guts to say it to my face for a private conversation.

>> Knights of Mayhem will be premiering tonight, thanks to National Geographic. It starts, I believe, at 7pm, and there is a second episode right after. For those who love and adore our dear William the Dragonhearted, he will be featured (somewhere, at some time or another) in this show, since he's one of the main blacksmiths. I'm so proud of how far he's come, how well he's done for himself, and how far his talents have been stretched from the very little he was given to start with, to being a premier armour maker for the world of jousting today. Go little bro! :D
