To Military Moms on Mothers' Day:
Dear Mom, 
I know you are worried about me, knowing that me being in this uniform puts a 
big target on my back as far as a lot of the people in this country are 
concerned; and I know that you outliving me is one of your greatest fears.  I 
know that you watch the news each night with your heart in your throat, and that 
part of you assumes the worst when the phone rings in the middle of the night, 
and I know that a big part of you wishes that I had let someone else take the 
risks that go with this uniform, rather than volunteering myself.
But Mom, the problem is that you taught me that an Adult Takes Responsibility, 
and you taught me that Freedom Isn't Free- someone has to step up and put the 
Common Good ahead of their own self-interest, and you taught me that We don't 
expect someone else to do something if We aren't willing to do it ourselves  So 
you see, Mom, that even though I know you worry, I volunteered for Military 
Service because You Taught Me to do what needs to be done; I wouldn't be Your 
Child if I *wasn't* willing to Serve.
So be Proud this Mothers' Day Mom, and know that I Serve because I know it's 
what You would do in my place.
