Greetings!
Below are a few updates for Talon Crescent Festival 2013. Please check for
additional updates on sections of the taloncrescentwars.org page.
********Volunteers:Â Gate volunteers are needed. If you can help for an
hour or two over the weekend please contact the Event Stewards at
stewards at taloncrescentwars.org . Â
1- Hotel update: I understand people have had difficulties
making reservations at the Santa Fe. I've spoken with the Sales
Director. Please use code ACITALO or Talon
Crescent. They have added rooms to the Sunday block, and the deadline for
reservations has been extended to February 5th.
2- Pre-reg: We can now take pre-registration by mail. Please check the
taloncrescentwars.org site for details. If you can possibly pre-reg it
will greatly speed up gate and help us get everyone to morning classes on
time.
3- Start Time: Gate will open at 8:45am to help people make 9am classes.
4-Archery/Thrown weapons update:Â This weekend we found out that we were
unable
to get the approval we had originally believed we would receive for
Archery and
Thrown Weapons using live steel. BUT -
there will still be a very strong presence of both forms at the event
:). There will be several variants such as the fondue
forks and other kitchen utensils (minus knives), a youth competition and
adult
competition on Saturday, and darts on Sunday to practice throwing form and
have
fun with. Several classes for topics
such as arrow making, stands and quivers as well as technique are being
explored. As soon as those have been
confirmed we will send out a quick note with details.
5- A&S:Â We are waiting on final details for a couple classes so that the
A&S steward can finalize the schedule. Some general topics are: brewing,
honey tasting for meads, Open Scriptorium, documentation class, making and
using period pigments, fiber arts, A&S display and drop in for artisans
and interested individuals to talk shop and technique.
Â
6- Lunch:Â Lunch will be available both days and will be a sandwich,
fruit, chips
& dessert. Suggested donation $5. Soda and water will be available for a
$1 each.
Â
7- Parking- the park has a $6/car parking fee.
Â
8-Equestrian - facilities are not set up for having
competitions or full demo, however we will have space to set up at least
one or
two of the games and a chance for individuals who might want to try it out to
walk through them on horseback. We will also have information on the games,
displays, and yes people can come by and just pet and spoil our furry friends
:)
YIS,
Event Stewards: Duke Patrick O'Malley & Lady Rhua Cat Ifrinn
