COOKING COMPETITION ATUPRISING XXVIIII
The purpose of thisCompetition is to promote interest in foods and cookery of the"period" prior to 1600 AD;
to promote period food and cooking withinArtemisia through a fun and friendlycompetition.
This years competition is bebased on

2015 Medieval Iron Chef Competition Rules
? Competition shallbe between teams of 2-3 people.
? All teams mustpre-register with the Iron Chef Steward, Meistres Gwynnyth prior to May 25,2015 and pay a $5 entry fee.
? There is a limitof 8 teams this year.
? THERE WILL BE ANOVICE CATEGORY this year. To qualify anyone on your team may not have been in a cooking competition (SCA)before.
? Please advertiseand encourage people to participate in the ?tasting committee? as their supporthelps cover cost and keep entry fees low.
? Thursday, atUprising 29. Judging/tasting in TBD. ALL team will present at thedesignated time. The judges will have 30-45 min to judge and then we will openfor tasters to come through.
? Teams willprepare a medieval meal? sufficient to provide adequate tasting? portionsfor about 20-25 based upon LE VIANDIER DE TAILLEVENT.
? The Iron Chef Stewardwill choose a single recipe from the cook book that all teams must prepare andserve. To be announced/provide with yoursecret ingredients.
? There will beabout 3-5 secret ingredient that you must identify and use in the recipe orother dish.
? The Meal mustcontain at least 3 dishes ? the chosen recipe and two other dishes of yourchoice. There is a maximum of 5 dishes, each dish should allow adequate ?taste?sized servings and the meal should be able to be presented in the time andspace allotted. (Make enough so the tasters and teams can taste!) Also,consider the amount of time you have to present and serve.
? Novice Iron Chef ? must do the Chosen Recipe, no morethan 3 dishes total.
Thechosen dish will need to be prepared onsite on site on the day of the event. Otherdishes may be prepared anywhere/when the team choses. ANY DISHES PREPARED IN ADVANVE? REQUIRE DOCUMENTATION ? No more than 3 dishesprepared in advance.
? All onsitecooking must be done without electricity.
? Teams mustarrange for their own cooking sites and equipment. Teams are responsible forproviding or arranging for all cooking and serving items. This should includean appropriate method for serving the 3 judges. Teams should bring some methodto serve tasters.
? Teams areresponsible for the cleanliness of their kitchen, both during and after thecompetition. Teams are expected to follow MODERN food handling guidelines so asnot to poison the judges or tasting populace!
? Teams or TeamCaptains must check in with the Competition Steward the evening before thecompetition to confirm participation. On the day of the Competition teams willreceive their box of ingredients and the chosen recipe. Judging time is 4 hours after their food box isreceived. Check in, Pick up and presentation times and places are TBD.
? There will be abox of unidentified ingredients given to the teams on the day of the event. Allitems in the box must be identified and used in some way in the dish(es).
? Teams will all present& be judged at the same time. IE? fairly standard A&S judging style. Each team must bring their meal to thedesignated Pavilion and be ready at the designated time.
? Three gentleswill judge the feasts in the following areas:
- Recipes chosen
- Redactions
- Authenticity/Continuity
- Complexity
- Presentation & Palatability
- Judges overall impression
Judges may visit cooking sites throughout the day.
? The followingawards will be announced and prizes awarded:
- Medieval Iron Chef 2015
- Best Over All Dish as chosen by the judges
- Taster?s Choice (Not the coffee), as chosen by the Tasters.
- Best chosen recipe decided by the judges.

? Competing teammembers will be allowed to taste their own and other teams? entries along withthe judges and members of the Populace Tasting Committee.
? The winning teamwill be presented with the Medieval Iron Chef Banner, which they may displayfor the following year and return to be presented at the next Medieval IronChef Tournament.
? Teams areencouraged to choose appropriate team names, wear something to identify theirteam, and/or do anything else that adds to the enjoyment of the event.
? Teams will supply all of their own ingredients andcan use unlimited quantities: except for the 3-5 SECRET ingredients thatthey must identify and use. You willbe limited to the quantities of those 3-5 secret ingredients that you receive.

TASTING Committee ?populace member may come and taste the wondrous dishes and vote on theirfavorite. $3-5 tasting donation to be paid at the competition.
? Stewards definition of ?Medieval Meal? ? what would be asimple supper or a course in a supper or dinner for the nobility we portray.
?Tasting portion ? think big portion on tasty demo day at Costco or such
?Advance = prior to the day of thecompetition.
