I wrote this in response to Constance's "A Challenge" but that's when the Yahoo GRoups went all caterwonky. I noticed no one else seemed to take up the Challenge, so I actually WILL post this. Oh, BTW, yes, that WAS sent to TRM's and that IS Her Majesty's response. Please read the whole thing!--- On Wed 10/22, Queen of Artemisia < queenartemisia at yahoo.com > wrote:

You know, I'm thinkin' "Go Constance!"> That is a damned fine idea! It really can't be that> hard, huh? I mean, I went to Crown this last weekend> and here's what *I* saw: Lady Johanna heralded her> first List as the Cote du Ciel Herald. She was newly> established and did her very best having never> really seen a List done before. She was brave and> she did all but the first and third rounds, which I> did to first show her how it was done and then to> give her a break. She should be watched for a Pillar> here soon. Lady Meagan was the autocrat, but she> also sat the List table with Mistress Caointairin,> putting in more than her share of the sweat hours.> It's tough enough to do the autocratsy stuff at an> event, but to volunteer to do even more, stuff where> you're filling another office, ANY office, is over> and above. Pillar material there too. M'Lord Jean> Marc was a newcomer who stepped up to the plate and> delivered a pretty good fight for his first list. He> did pretty good because I got to comment on how cool> his name was in the third round. Someone's been> doing their practicing! Maybe he should be tapped> for his AoA for his efforts. Lord Thor, who got his> AoA a kerbillion years ago, had the very best> display of heraldry on the field! His standard and> tabard were clean, beautiful and had TONS of nifty> little crosses in bold, strong black and white, with> red for sex appeal! He was cheerful and respectful,> even though his incredibly engraved spear, which he> did himself, kept trying to fall on people to get> their attention. He rocked, and impressed upon> Prince Hoegaarden how top drawer our artisans were.> He should be recognized for how well he represented> our kingdom with a Maple Leaf. Lady Katherine d'Leau> brought a friend to the event named Charles. He is a> handsome, helpful fellow who looks a bit like Duke> Sean around the eyes! He made sure the ladies in his> charge didn't have to do a bunch of heavy lifting,> and escorted two of us from dinner back to the site> when we decided to walk. An AoA in the making.> M'Lord Freidrich, Graf Reinmar's new Man-At-Arms got> greatly inspired by a nifty little speech he heard> regarding this game and how it is the epic saga we> all want to experience for ourselves. You should> look him up in the future and ask him to tell you> about it. He also was one of the newcomers who got> to go forth during court for this being their first> event. That fellow's on track for some serious> awardage in his career. Look to him to have all the> awards someday! Speaking of first eventers, Michael> And Michelle came to the event and spent several> hours getting to know our fabulous kingdom! They> were regaled with stories regarding Maitre> Guillaume, Branon Tryggva, Lord Terence, King John,> Count Conon and many others. One of the best aspects> of their experience was that each of the people> these tales were told of came over and volunteered> their own points of view to the tales being told!> They established to Mike and Michelle that we are a> fun and approachable kingdom, and in so doing, have> brought these fine gentles into our arms as> inspired, life-long members. Let's see.... who> else.... M'Lord Aaron got out there and did some> fencing during the dinner break because there were> folks interested in doing a bit of rapier, but they> didn't want to detract from the hardsuit tourney by> doing it during the competiton. Regardless, he spent> about an hour fencing with m'Lady oh, drat, what is> her name, ...she's m'Lord Ansel's lady....Catherine!> to
make certain she got the chance to do some> rapier work despite the hardsuit atmosphere. Might> be a good pair of candidates for their Awards of> Arms. Guess this is harder than I thought.... HL> Aurore was up there behind the thrones during the> introduction of the combatants, helping fetch the> fighters' and consorts' for Prince Hoegaarden.> Although her health is supposed to prohibit her from> doing the step and fetch, she kept rushing out to> grab those names every time. She's a real trooper> and would be good for a Pillar, but I think she> already has one, so her next option is the Golden Su> n In Splendor. There was a really great set of kids> at the event who held the pillows for Their> Majesties. One little girl, Aurora, was wearing 14th> Century Burgundian, you know, with the truncated> hennin? She was ADORABLE! And very patient. She held> the pillow she was entrusted with taht had the> Princess Crown on it without fidgetting, even> through the congratulations, and the crowning of the> Prince and all that. It was quite a task for a child> who was probably about *4 years old.* She got a> nifty little pin, but I'd be inclined to recommend> her for a Griffin's Pride m'self. Lady Elisdh from> Arn Hold was tapped to play entry music during> closing court and managed to throw on Tudor in 10> minutes to make sure she was in place on time. Her> added ambience really brought the pagentry home in a> very potent, yet intangible way. I think she's ready> for her Maple Leaf. So, as you can all see, here's> but a small, concise list of folks who were doing> lots at this event, and the awards they might> deserve as a result of their efforts. Since *I* can> do it, I'm certain anyone can do it. Constance put> forth a challenge to Michael, but the facts are that> the challenge is to all of us. I know everybody, and> I remember names like I remember to breathe. It's> natural to me. I'm also everywhere at once, and have> the added bonus of having an evil, wicked, but> highly observant, alternate persona, so I'm ALWAYS> looking at what people are doing. I'm also always> writing those letters Constance talked about. Take a> lesson from HL Aurore and get the names of folks who> are doing stuff but whom you don't know. Keep a> notebook in your pouch and write them down. When you> get home, write a letter. If you think you'll> forget, write the letter on the spot and hand it to> Their Majesties. They'll hand it to their scribe, or> their herald, and it will be recorded. Or you can> tell me. I do this stuff all the time.
