Hello!

I can only give you my own experiences as an example....

When we formed the EKMG, we decided that any & all uses of metal, metal
tools, or might use metal even at a molecular lever were fair game. Oh,
yeah, and glass too, since it was considered a gem in period, and gems
have metal and are used in jewelry! We weren't greedy, we were being
inclusive!! ;-)

And I had the idea of a not-so-hidden agenda that it would lead to some
really cool cross-Guild fun. So that a lot of us could get together and
have a lot of fun, in an "open Guild halls" kind of way. A bit of period
and persona "schtick" (I don't like the word, but I love the concept, if
that makes any sense) to add to the richness of the SCA experience. Am I
still making sense?

So the EKMG could include dyeing, since mordants are metals....and it
could include wood burning, since the tool is heated metal.....and it
could include gold-wrapped thread, even though that's also covered in
embroidery. Personally, I think it's fun to overlap - more people having
more fun! If they're interested in a particular piece of metalwork, but
don't want to join the Metalsmiths' Guild, no biggie....I don't care
about "in or out", I care about people being taught what they want to
learn. If there's a better teacher in another Guild, I'll certainly send
them to the best teacher for their skill set and personality no matter
where they are!

And if other Guilds cover the same topics, that's fine! Let's *all* get
together and have fun with the same stuff!

So my suggestion is if it's fiber-related, or fiber-tool-related, include
it! It's more fun that way!

-Carowyn, offering her 2 pence again, YMMV and all that! ;-)
