Hi all,

I guess my basic question is what is an "SCAism" and what is actually
period?

I have belonged to a group who was attempting to recreate an accurate
rapier group regarding playing your prize and using period techniques
all the time. This was very different from the SCAish group of the
Rapier League here in the east. Now before anyone gets the knickers in a
twist I am not bashing the Rapier League just pointing out how they
advance a person and see someone as someone who should be one of their
top level folks is modern and not accurate to the 15th and 16th century.
It seems to me that if this group is going to go to the effort to create
something then do it with accuracy or don't spin your wheels and make
another "SCAish" guild. The SCA has enough of those.

When I have looked at some period guilds it seems the master took on
apprentices/journeymen - the young man worked for the master for a
spelled out period of time. With some guilds there was a required
project to show he had accomplished a particular level and it was the
master who then said the man was ready and he could now hang out his
shingle. I think with a bit of research the same can be the case.

If I have offended - not my intent.
