I support what Greg and Johannes found.  Also check on another of Goncalvez'
associates,  Nuno Tristam.

And as Galefridus mentions, check the Davidson books.

 

You could also try the search terms "atlantic slave trade" since the 1441
incident is considered to be the beginning of this trade.

I could not find any articles in the databases of the academic library I
work at, including an African American History database we have. The subject
headings all begin with the 18th century.
