Dear folks,

Recently a librarian from Drexel University posted to the
OCLC-Cataloging list with advice for those seeking to establish an
Arabic name entry. The message in part:

"Still, I understand your confusion. It is hard to know whether this
Arabic name is an actual name or a title, since it could be either.
Imam, for example, could be a title for a religion clerk. It also could
be a last name of a person.

"I like the following link, because it tries to explain the Arabic
naming conventions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_name"

This Wikipedia entry includes a link to "Period Arbic Names and Naming
Practices" by Da'ud ibn Auda.
