Greetings,
I disagree, I don't think that my question is answered by the original email. All the missive says is:
"Q: Will the SCA be privy to specific details of my background,
whether I pass the exam or not?
A: No. The SCA will only receive a pass or a fail notice from the
background-examinat-ion provider."
Now lets say I apply to work with children and I get a 'fail' on my pass/fail. Does that automatically mean I'm a child molester? And what do people think, automatically, if I DO fail? That I'm a child molester. What other 'logical' conclusion is there?
Well, I'm not a child molester, at least thats what the BSA and my county concealed weapons permit say. But how will anyone know why we've failed unless we know what criteria they are looking for?
I guess I just feel like this could unfairly label someone as something they aren't based on the simple 'pass/fail' system. And, not knowing the criteria, we won't know why someone failed. If we took this 'fail' as reason to put someone to a 'R&D' aren't we really condoning a witch hunt of sorts, even if after the fact? With the witches volunteering to be checked for witchcraft I realize.
I have two sons, they are more important to me than any SCA related activity. But I am nearly as concerned about the rights of the individual in this case. I just would like to know that this is well thought out and well administered before we think of it as a crutch.
There are plenty of bad people out there with no record whatsoever. They would PASS the check. There is no replacement for parental involvement in your childs activities. So try and remember that this isn't going to 'fix' anything.
Sincerely,
CvZ

Greetings;
Before this topic takes on a life of it's own...everyone needs to take a
deep breath, step back and carefully RE-READ all of Master Aaron's
missive...and especially the FAQ attached. So far all of the questions
people are asking have already been addressed there. Speculating about
what may or may not be required doesn't serve anyone but the rumor mills.
As noted, this is only the first official announcement. The specific
information on the actual implementation of this directive will come
after the Board of Director's Meeting later this month. I encourage you
to be patient and stay tuned...
