My Ladies and Lords,
I have been monitoring posts for the last several days and I finally
feel that it is time to chime in. The concept of a point of
rememberence is noble and well served. The particulars of it
obviously has created contemplation and discouse amongst Artemesian
members, a great thing. Though, I have only been a player for about
two years now, I do have a strong sense of religiousity, iconism, and
death ritual. I have read many great ideas and have found pleasure
in reading everyone's posts and I wanted to comment on a few things.
First off, has anyone considered the faiths, beliefs and tastes of
all those who be represented by such a site? I understand that the
"chapel" idea has gained momentum by a recent loss, which, I am also
experiencing with you all, however, to include the loss of past
players in a monotheistic theme may do disservice and distrespect to
each of their individual lives, as well as, those in attendance.
Also, what is the greatest joy of our SCA events? I would posit that
it is the celebration of the joint experience of being affiliated
with such a fine organization and its body. Why then, should the
recount of a player's life be a sorrowful mourning, why not a
celebration of their lives? I do like the idea of a "sanctuary,"
that aspect offers a place for personal reflection and would be a
fine piece of furniture, however, given the joys and the bright
memories that we all have of our cousins, wouldn't a recurrent
celebration of lives enjoyed and passed be more appropriate? Just
thinking out loud, again...

P.S. I can't wait to see all of your smiling, laughing faces at
Estrella. Keep on keeping on pilgrims...
