The 3.5 ounce linen at fabricstore.com is wonderful, but it is not sheer. It is very light weight and can be used for veils and partlets.  

Sheer linen such as we see in period portraits is gone. According to Dame Bronwen, in her capacity as a museum curator, during WWI the flax species that was used to make sheer linens was eradicated by the war.  So while we have access to very light weight linens, those sheer linens are gone forever.
