[Artemisia] Fabric question

Ja'mala,
Do the burn test first to see if it is a natural fiber or synthetic.
Synthetic fibers can usually be laundered without damage with normal
laundry detergent and semi-gentle washing machine cycles. Natural fibers
are either plant or protein. Plant fibers (cotton, linen, rayon) can take
normal washing procedures with the exception of poor grades of Rayon..
treat like silk and use gentle cycles and mild soaps not detergents.
Protein fibers (wools and silk) can be laundered in a very gentle cycle
with the most gentle spin or squeeze out.... hang or lay flat to dry and
use gentle soaps or shampoo.

The burn test: Take a snip of fabric... not too small... to the torch.
Hold it with tweezers so you don't get burned. Ignite and watch it burn.
If it melts and drips, then it's synthetic. If it turns to ash and smells
like singed hair, then it's protein. If is smells like burnt wood, it's
plant.

Hope that helps.
