[Artemisia] Uprising question

Okay, I've been waiting for the post-event smoke (okay, laundry) to clear
somewhat before I tried to compose a reply.

First off, the high points of the entire event for my kids were the boffer
fighting and kids court. Regarding those two events, I'd like to publicly,
loudly, enthusiastically commend M'lord William and the young gentleman I
know only as Rat.

William did a wonderful job keeping the boffer fun and not so life-or-death
while still teaching the fundamentals of SCA combat. He showed a great
sensitivity in the approach he took working with each age group, and even
each child. He made my kids first experience with boffer 100% fun. Which
is impressive when you consider they both lost. So, for that I thank him.

Rat added the one thing the Children's court was missing - a child herald!
He did a great job under the, um, gentle tutelage of their Majesty's herald
(whose name escapes me). Rat's own quick wit and knowledge of court
etiquette made more of an impression on my kids than any amount of "grown
up's talking" could. I hope someone local to him has the time to nurture
one of Artemisia's budding crazy peo... uh, I mean Heralds.

The only things I'd suggest, is that Children's Court be careful not go too
long (this court was probably about the longest I'd go) and that the adults
be mindful of talking to the kids rather than over them. I understand that
this was the first court and a certain amount of "This is our kingdom's
future" is a necessary part of that. We should all be careful it doesn’t
turn into Parent's Court. Just something to keep an eye on.

All in all, I have to say it was a brilliant idea, well executed and the
kids and I look forward to it again next year!

Mauda
