[Artemisia] NMS and Site Fees

Ok, I'm on three different types of pain killers today, so I might not
make sense. AND ALL IS SAID WITH CHEER AND A SMILE. :-)

Thank you Thea for bringing this up and making the offer to take opinions. :-)

SO... for what it's worth, I've got two under the 16 year age mark and
although they like going to events and being in the SCA they find it
hard to find things to do that they don't not have to drag the
"parental units" off of a horse or battle field to go with them to
sign waivers, keep an eye on them or what not. So when they do go to
events, once maybe twice a year, it is mostly to "play" with their
friends. Being on a TIGHT budget, this is where I even find it hard
to justify getting them a membership let alone pay an additional NMF.
When they go, they really can't participate in most of the stuff on
their own, so they end up just helping out with cooking, chores, BEING
BORED, etc, but mostly "Playing". What I mean here is, either they
have to tag along with us "parental units" to *boring* classes or we
"parental units" have to tag along with them to "babysit" & sign
waivers. I am in complete agreement on the "This is not a baby
sitting service" thing, but if the kids go, it can end up a three way
TUG-O-WAR, nobody wins and it makes for a GLOOMY event for all of us,
so why pay more? (If I'm missing something on how to make EVERYONE
happy, PLEASE email me privately)

Now don't get me wrong, I LIKE taking the kids to events and do my
best to schedule time for everyone, but my opinions are, if the
majority of the time they are there, they are just "playing" with
other teen age friends, why are we charging them more, even if they
are not a member?

So I guess what I am saying is... My **opinion** is... that we should
not charge the youth under 16 a non-member fee BECAUSE... we want to
get YOUTH INTERESTED in the SCA to keep our Society on-going and if we
over charge the parents to death Member or Nonmember they are not
going to bring them and therefore we have less interested potential
members?

I didn't think $3 was too bad, but it's my two cents that if we really
HAVE to charge the youth a NMF it should be capped at a lesser fee.

I know, I know, things are already set, but... these are my thoughts
& opinions. :-)

Never meant harsh, like I said, said with a SMILE!! :-)

While I agree this should only be applied to adult site fees, how is charging an additional amount above corporate requirements any different than allowing a "discount with proof of membership", something that has been done throughout the known world for a long time? This is not new, what is different in my estimation is that $3.00 of a non-members site fee is going to the corporation.

When the BOD's written statement says "The NMS will not be collected for minors for whom there is a discounted event fee." To me, that means it will not be done. If exceptions are to be allowed, then the BOD ruling should state so. If there is such a statement from the BOD, and I missed it in skimming the minutes, I would appreciate knowing so.
